I thought the other heron turned out pretty good so I thought I would carve one for myself to have around my home. I didn't paint it, I wanted it to match the other carvings in my yard. I burnt some of the lower areas and the head feathers with a tourch, than stained with a UV protection sealer. I started this thread else where here, I was in a hurry but wanted to put it in this section for new work. sorry for the confusion. 1HER~4.JPG 2HER.JPG

Wow! That really turned out nice. What kind of stump did that come from?

Very nice. I like it better unpainted.

I'm relatively new to carving but the heron impresses me as much as anything I have seen. Is that your pattern or did you find it somewhere? I have done several shorebirds and am ready to tackle something a little more difficult so any help would be appreciated. One day I will take pictures of some of my work and post them up if I can figure out how to do it.

The Carving is made from Elm, I didn't use a pattern to make, just a sketch from a photo off the computer. I sketched it on the side of the stump to start with.
