Default Great blue heron

I thought the other heron turned out pretty good so I thought I would carve one for myself to have around my home. I didn't paint it, I wanted it to match the other carvings in my yard. I burnt some of the lower areas and the head feathers with a tourch, than stained with a UV protection sealer.

I started this thread else where here, I was in a hurry but wanted to put it in this section for new work. sorry for the confusion.

Wow! That really turned out nice. What kind of stump did that come from?

Very nice. I like it better unpainted.

I'm relatively new to carving but the heron impresses me as much as anything I have seen. Is that your pattern or did you find it somewhere? I have done several shorebirds and am ready to tackle something a little more difficult so any help would be appreciated. One day I will take pictures of some of my work and post them up if I can figure out how to do it.

The Carving is made from Elm, I didn't use a pattern to make, just a sketch from a photo off the computer. I sketched it on the side of the stump to start with.
