| | Goody's Santa I finally finished the Santa blank that Goody was kind enough to send me last July. Goody, I'm sorry I couldn't get it done in time for Christmas, due partly to procrastination on my part, and fear of messing it up. But I finally took the plunge and not only carved my first Santa, but my first face. I also finally achieved a goal I set for myself a long, long time ago and that was to carve a Saint--not the one I set out to carve, but it is Saint Nicholas. A while back I bought the Saint Francis of Assisi book by Helen Gibson from Rick at Little Shavers. I still have it and the wood. I just need to sit down and start carving--some day.
Anyway, I need to sand the Santa, and then I plan on coating it with Minwax Satin Finish Polyurethane. I like the natural wood grain, and I don't want to cover up its beauty with paint. Hopefully, I will complete the finish when it is a little warmer outside--40 degrees right now.

I think he looks really good. I like the idea of a Saint Nick instead of the typical Santa.

| | Re: Goody's Santa Thanks for all the kind words. I sanded and then cleaned the carving with Dawn. Now it gets another sanding and then sealer. Then I'll polyurethane it. |

| | Re: Goody's Santa Well, it's finished! I gave it two coats of Minwax Poly Wipe-on Clear Satin finished, and then the brown paper bag rub.
Goody, thank you very much for the opportunity to carve a Santa. Without the opportunity, I probably would have never attempted to carve a Santa.

| | Re: Goody's Santa Well done Bob, the finish turned out great. Goody has gotten many of us started on carving Santa's. I've been using my blank as a teaching aid for the carving group we started.
