Mr.Cliff, you could paint and correct the way you want his hand. The main thing is your golfers face and body is just right and not alot or people will be there to judge how you carved his hand.

Ive not seen many golfers playing that didnt have a cap or hat on,maybe on your next golfer, you can add a cap. With your now carving skills, you can do that!!

I really like how your flat plane carvings are now taking on more expressions plus showing your creativity! Dont stop now!!

Hey Forrest, thanks buddy, well sir, I've already changed the hand (looks almost real) broke the damn golf club, got the base put together and am now gonna TRY and carve a hat. As previously stated, this is a WIP, oh man, I hope I don't mess it up now.

I say paint over the hand with an opaque color and make it a glove. the burn line will be some what hidden under the paint

cliff,

maybe another idea will have you pulling your hair out with all the different suggestions to carve hands,

when i carve hands, i leave lots more wood than required to carve the hands out while still in the roughing out stage, mainly because it gives you the afford ability to reposition the hands in case you mess up the arms or have mis calculated the position previously.

when ready to start shaping the hands i only concern myself to a shape of a mitten shape for a hand then when content i detail fingers with only the detail needed to show finger separation,,

lots of time we get caught up in the details too early in the carving,
i have been known to wreck things by over detailing until the carving looses fingers or thumbs

so practice on separate hands and ways of attachment ain't wasted time

Cliff:
Going along with what Marci said, have someone take a couple of photos of you holding a golf club the way you want the figure to be holding it. One photo from the right side, one from in front, and one from the left side. You'll be able to see exactly how the hand/wrist/club looks from several angles that way. I do this all the time with my Santas.
