Default To Golf or Not to Golf

I thought I'd post this on here before I finish it. It's my first time trying to do a hand and I think I fialed miserably, unfortunately the golf club comes out of his wrist rather than his hand. I'm gonna finish it anyway, I'll have to make a base for this one, he makes it a little top heavy. Point of interest, it took me dang near an hour to carve and sand the silly little golf club. He stands 3 3/4 inches and the whole thing is basswood.

cliff,

he looks great, dont fret the hands they are tricky, i still have trouble with hands but the more you carve the easier they get. i have found that if you get a hand study casting it helps alot, vicki bishop used to have some not sure if she still does but you could check their website.

cute lil guy there tucker,i can't tell much about the hand in the pics but he's right hands can be tricky, you could always lop the hand off and carve a seperate one and then join them together i've done it when a hand didn't come out right or at the wrong angle.that's my two cents anyway..but he's a cute feller regardless. just keep making chips and it'll come.

Hey Cliff , great job on the carving ,you are really getting this flat plane stuff down pat. Don't fret over the hand , it looks good and once you have him finished it will look better

Great Job Cliff now await with baited breath for the painting that would make a great prize at a golf tornament.

Thank you all so much for the kind comments, I just hope I don't mess it up in the painting, to me that's even tougher than carving, and you all know the problems I've had getting started. A special thanks to Gene, it was you that got me off the ground so to speak. Colin, funny you should mention the tournament thing. We have a small golf course here in Dunnville and if the painting turns out half decent I'll take it over, only thing is I have no idea what it would be worth.

Tucker, if you dont mind a little bit of advice on your hand I'll share something with you.
If you would get something about the size of that club handle and hold it against your belt line like this fella, you'd see that your finger tips are burried behind the clubs handle and up against your pants/belt out of sight.

You can then see that your knuckles are lined up parallel to the clubs handle. All you'd have to do then is carve the four knuckle bumps and four lines showing the fingers are going under the club handle and not have to worry about the ends of the fingers. It looks like you'd have plenty of wood there to try this if you wish.

I'm loving the way your characters are turning out. The facial expressions make me smile. I think taking this lil guy down to the local golf club is a great idea!

Marcia.

Marci, that's what I'm talkin about,SUGGESTIONS, you are so right and I'm so dang dumb. I just held my hand as if there was a club in it and I've got it all wrong. I don't know if I can fix it or not with the fingers already wood burned. I'll have a good look at it but you can bet your knees, I'll do it different on the next one. Thank you so much, ideas from others is how we learn.
