Marci those are just too cool! These have been on my "round tuit" list for quite a while now. Looks like a great project to take along and carve away from home!

I haven't even touched my carving stuff for a couple months, and haven't been reading posts. We're still deep in house renovations and if I read the posts I just get frustrated! I want to carve, but the only free time I have had lately is used by other "back burner" stuff." Besides, I get so whacked out doing all that staining then finishing on cabinet doors with Spar Urethane I'm not sure I should be using a knife! Even with the window open and the fan on that stuff is still pretty strong. I only have a few good brain cells left, and I have a feeling it's taking care of those. If I could just figure out how to get rid of the "bubbles" I'd be a happy camper! I've tried wiping on the final coat, thinning final coat and using four letter words at final coat, but even with sanding between coats to a smooth finish, the little pieces of "grit" feeling bubbles come back with every coat.

Sorry, off topic (but if anyone knows the answer to the bubble problem PLEASE help!)! I did find some time yesterday to do some searches for Hitty. I've wanted to try this doll for my granddaughter way back when Thomp was having so much fun. Reading back, I forgot about his little "puddle jumper." I thought I had the pattern, but can't find it. Seems like a lot more sites than there were when I first looked, though very few patterns. I was surprised to find so many copyrights though. What's to copyright? The doll is over 100 years old!

Anyway, this time the only pattern I found was the "Bitty" by the guy who uses dowels for the head and straight blanks for the other body parts (His have the protruding chins). I did find one for the shoulder plate doll, but I know I saw one that had the pattern for the full size rough cutout pattern.

Which one (if any??) are you using, and can you tell me where to find it? You're getting so good, you probably don't even bother with a pattern anymore! Really awesome stuff you guys have all done with this doll. And didn't I read that one of the members here has a daughter (?) who had one of the main "Hitty" pages? Does she carve or get Dad to do that part !

Miss you guys, but I'll be back carving, hopefully pretty soon! We've been at this for over a year, it really does have to reach a point of at least slowing down, soon!

Linda

Thanks! I've really missed this community of great friends!

This renovation started 35 years ago---had a few kids, and got sidetracked. They've "mostly" moved on now so we're trying to finish!
