Default Four More dolls finished

I did these gals at 5.5 inches tall. They all stand on their own. I have such fun carving these lil dolls, I never know what they will look like until they are done being painted up. I'm still making friends with my sewing machine... I might win this war yet with the help of Tom H's daughter. *grin*

Marci, Isn't it amazing how we start out to carve something, then all of a sudden it takes on a personality of its own? Each one of your dolls is different, and you can just tell that their personalities are too. I think you have a wonderful style and are carving some really nice little dolls. Keep it up...Tom H

Great dolls Marci! I still haven't tried them, but you certainly do inspire. Your paint job on them brings them to life.
What time period clothing are you going to put on them. If you go early period like the 9th or 10th century (tunic and scarf) the sewing would not be as difficult.

Thank you for the compliments. I do enjoy carving these lil dolls. I do have a hard time doing the blush with a wash. For some reason I keep getting an edge on the blush area. I do seal with sanding sealer first ..could this be the problem?

I'm hoping to dress them in simple little dresses and bonnets. *crosses fingers* As soon as I'm over this horrid cold I will haul out the sewing machine again and give sewing another try.

Tom.. its funny how by the time I'm doing the last of the stringing I've got them named and have been talking to them already.

I must still be somewhat in the stone age of carving but to be honest, I haven't yet seen any doll carving... complete with carved mechanical joints.

This is very interesting Marci and I must assume that this style of doll making must have been more of the "mainstream" for toys etc. before the advent of plastics and the other petroleum based products of the recent century?

Keep up the good work!

These are really cute, Marci. I'd totally love to do something like this, but the closest I get to a sewing machine is when I stand next to it and say, "Ma, could you sew this for me?"

Marci,

Excellent Work! Be Sure and sign and number them when finished. People of the Future may want to know! They have such an antique look to them already!

I'm thinking "Antique Roadshow 2107"

Thank you all for the compliments!

Lightening - This doll pattern comes from a site that premotes the Hitty doll. Hitty is a wooden doll found in a pawn shop 100 or so years ago and the woman who bought her decided to write a book on what her (Hitty's) first 100 years could have been like. Alot of folks like to try to get the Hitty look and I've tried to do that too. These are the closest I've come. But I'm going to just carve the gals or guys of my own style from now on.

Jillsy - Its funny you should say that about wanting to try it. When I was reading your post on feelings, I wanted to jump in and tell you to do dolls. You and me both on running to 'mom' to do the sewing. As soon as my mother is healed up from surgery and me from my cold we are going to have a 'date' together on " teaching me to sew tiny clothes". Keep your fingers crossed I dont break her machine.

CC I love that show!! I was just telling hubby a few weeks ago that it would be neat to know if something carved by either me or the folks I know in WCI would someday be discussed on that show. I am always amazed at the carving done on furniture when there wasnt a power tool to be had.... awsome.

Thanks again everyone! I have 8 other carvings back there needing to be painted so I had better get to it.
