| | Found wood; House on Rocks Good afternoon!
This is my first attempt at a found wood house. I tried to follow the wood allowing some of the texture to be large rocks and in other areas putting in bricks. I also tried to put in a kind of stair case out of the rocks.
Fairly happy for my first project. No pictures to go from just started carving. This old cedar is a hard wood, I hope I don't damage my carving tools.

| | Re: Found wood; House on Rocks This might be a little better. The darn thing is so long and thin that it is hard to get a good picture. This is just the house portion.

Nice work!
The title of this thread reminds me of a story.
You probably remember the old song about the wise man building his house upon the rocks? Well, my Grampa (a self-made man who quit work early) did just that.
If I were to venture a guess, I would have to say that his lack of education affected many of his decisions. He did in fact build his house upon the rocks; but he forgot to mix in some concrete. That was not the only miscalculation, he stacked the rocks on a sandbar. Now I don't know if you understand the gravity of such a situation, when the sandbar is just down river from a large hydro-electric dam.
That was not the only house he built that was swamped by water. He figured it might be safer if he built above the dam. Sadly, he build in a low spot and when the water rose behind the dam, well you can probably guess.
So he got a bit smarter and built another home twenty feet above the amphibious-submersible house.
This was much better until the dam was raised twenty-five feet to increase it's output.
What worries me, is mom says I take after my Grampa. |

| | Re: Found wood; House on Rocks Thanks folks, no it is not bark (wish it was, would have been a lot easier) The Pc is about 28" long and 3 inches wide.
I really liked how the grain (white/red) worked out. The door frame ended up being white with the house a deep cedar red. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
