Default "Foreclosure Notice!" Carving Complete!

Finally got this project up to the painting stage. Seems like I've been working on it for ages. It will have a new title....."Sad End to a Bad Year!". He's still holding his Foreclosure notice but thought the other title would broaden the story behind the piece.

The letter is made from tin, as is the envelope. I spent the whole morning disecting a real envelope to come up with the design to cut from tin as I wanted to have an actual envelope in his hand. After it was cut and bent I soldered it at the central point on the back leaving it so you can actually see space between the front and back.

Aside from the painting the next challenge will be to create the crystal tear(s) running down his cheeks. Maybe a little extra red around the eyes. Hopefully, besides maybe a little tinge of humor the viewer will also feel a little of the sadness old Tex has at the loss of his ranch.

Comments always welcome.

Try some "Treasure Kote" from wallyworld Lynn, should work fine...I just use a toothpick and put a very small drop on eyes to make them shine...a bit more would make a great tear......its thick and can be built up as well.

Great carving lyn,

lots of special things to look at, but i seen that face before, you must habe a egg crate of the same ones....

maybe a tip for tear drop..

i once pulled a long human hair through curing epoxi to see if i could build it up, but it just wound up making little droplettes that hardened on the hair. beed shaped little bitty things like 1/2 mustard seed size down to glossy hair..
i tossd it becuse i was trying to make rope...
but thinking you like experimentation you may be able to use zip kick and drag it twice to get tears before it cures out on you....

I especially like the milkcan mailbox with the bullet hole in it. You attention to detail tells a great story.

Ya know, Lynn, you seem to get a lot of comments on your "carving", and that is absolutely right, but there is a lot more to your work than just the physical act of the blade. Somehow you seem to be able to capture those little instants in time that add the humanity that we all relate to. Not just in the facial expressions, but also in the body language that each of your subjects seems to express. Combinations that evoke feelings of sadness, total dejection, joy, fear, anger, worry, persistance, pride; well, I think you understand.

The wonderment of your carvings is in the true feelings the little guys exude. These are all helped by the small dioramas you place them in.....not just a place to put them, but a small slice of life, captured in the tiny space that surrounds your subject.

Hat's off to you and your amazing snippets of western lore!

Al

Lynn, Your a true master craftsman, every piece has its own little story, full of rich details, in both the carving & storybook. Can't wait to see it painted. Thanks for sharing. Bill
