Default Folk-art Decoy

Hi Guys,

This duck was knife carved from Atlantic White Cedar and painted with an airbrush.

I thought this wood was really easy to work with and I love the grain. Special thanks to Lori and Al for the help with airbrush paints, a little thinning and the filter made all the difference.

Well done Bill! I love the light staining so that the wood grain shows through. I've been wanting to try that technique for a while now. Good job.

Really a nice piece of work, Bill! One pretty duck!

Glad you got that airbrush business figured out. You'll enjoy using that.

That's a beautiful piece of work Bill. Great job! The stain accents the piece and gives it such a nice flowing aspect.

Thank you Reg, I like the light stain look too. I've already
started another OldSquaw and I hope I can do a better job
on the head colors.

Just like painting a car Dave, lots of blue painters tape...hehe,
my hand is not steady enough to draw a straight line. The wood
was not sealed before the painting, I used water based paints
and held the airbrush about two feet from the bird and just
gave it a dusting and then sealed it with clear glaze medium.

Right you are Al, I really like airbrush painting now.
Thanks for the kind words and the help.

Hey Ken, I was trying for a soft look and just enough paint
to identify the bird but the head came out a little darker
than I wanted, I'll fix that on the next one.

Thanks Bob, btw I have not seen any updates on the ship lately
hows it doing.

Bill

Whoa that is extremely stylish, I love the restrained detailing. It has the bird's graceful curves just right. Envy envy.
