| | Re: flower panel - wip i am close to be finished, only one leaf left to carve, and the dreaded border, so i thought its a good time to share the last inprogress pic ... i worked over the main flower once again to make all "tubes" really round, and the top balls look like balls as much as the little depth allows. yesterday evening, when i had finished that, i was satisfied, today i think, maybe i need go over it again (hehe, now i understand why i need so much time for carving) or, maybe not ? anyway, i hope you enjoy this one, i am now very eager to finish it, as i have started a new project already, and want get this one off my carving table... |

| | Re: flower panel - wip Looking fab there Doris. Wonderful design and beautifully executed. I sure it'll look fantastic when installed - and yeah - definitely post pics.
So - getting anxious to move on already eh? I am great at starting things - terrible and seeing them through to completion. That's why I have about 5 half completed carvings sitting around. At least you get yours DONE! So what's your next project gonna be? Keep us posted. I LOVE watching your progress with each new carving.

| | Re: flower panel - wip hey, i said it is not finished yet ;-) ...but thanks, so glad you like it. chuck next is an old lady, i have started a wip thread on... and yes, henri, do try, it is fun to carve...ah, mark, "put finger in wound", we call that...well, to be honest, i am not really happy with it. it is nice, and lines flow, but it has not the light feel i wanted achieve, despite the "airy" design which makes the wood already a little "flimsy". even though i had spent quite some time on it, maybe it was a mistake made already in the design stage, the top flower, though i like it per se, is too "heavy". dont see what i could do now, i have carved down in places almost to look through... yes, and since i am just at it, not all happy with the leaves either. each one on its own is nice, but they not look as if they belong to a single plant... |

| | Re: flower panel - wip I'm sorry Doris,,,I didn't mean to "put a finger in a wound" as you say. But I got the distinct impression you were not happy with it. Not so much by what I read in what you say,,,but what I read in what you carve. |

| | Re: flower panel - wip flower panel is finished :-) ... and, i made a mistake just at the end. oh, well. ... but despite i am not so happy as it turned out, i am glad i did this project, since i learned to cut well with fretsaw (so that borders are perpendicular :-)), i really learned now to carve with both hands, since the size of the panel made it necessary, and i learned that making a design, which pleases, is more difficult and subtle than i thought, and i learned carving pine (not my favourite wood for carving, i would say). i want thank all of you for joining in, and in particular all those gave me so valuable tips along the journey. thanks :-)...
i put a larger image in gallery, and, since you asked so often i really cannot distract from fulfilling this request ;-) , so i put an image how it looks installed on the shelf, color will match in not too far future ... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
