| | flower bas relief - wip hi everybody :-)
just to let you know what i am working at in the moment :-) a small bas relief, the design is following a drawing of da vinci in his sketchbook. the wood is 23x13x1 cm ( = about 9x5x0.4'' ), it is jelutong i think (not sure though), it is pretty hard, but carves nicely and seems to hold tiny detail well, which is very necessary with this design ,,, and i have now set down the background so that the carved depth will be about 0.5 cm and started on the top bud ... fun :-) |

| | Re: flower bas relief - wip Hi Doris, another super project from your workshop. Great job of getting the background down and very nice outlining. Do you use a knife or v-gouge or both when making your stop cuts? I ask because I like to use both and wondered if anyone else does too. Your cuts are so clean!

| | Re: flower bas relief - wip This ones going to be a nice one. Doris did you use a router to get rid of some of the background? Seems like an awful amount of work to get to the fun part.

| | Re: flower bas relief - wip hi thank you, doug and joy. not too many pics will come, but i will show when something essentila is done :-) kathy, neiter nor ;-) knifes are too uncontrollable to me, and i have no v-tool small enough, and more i dislike them how they work...i use first a very round gouge like a number 8, and cut close to the border, but not touch it, then use a flatter gouge to come closer, and finally shave the border clean, with the number 2 you see in picture. that, and a numbber 5 are my workhorses... no, mel, i have no router, all work done with chisels...was not too bad, but yes, carving the flowers themselves will be the fun :-) |
