| | First shared carving Hi everyone;
I just uploaded my first shared carving and would like some gentle feedback. It is under caricatures and is titled first shared carving, Odie.
I hope you all think I did ok on it because I was nervous about posting it.

| | Re: First shared carving Don't be nervous Sue.....he's a fine looking Hillbilly! Great start. As for critique.....I wouldn't suggest anything different. Good shape, detail and painting. Practice is all you need, practice, practice, makes you go from good, to great! Make him a few friends!

| | Re: First shared carving He looks good Sue! Nice detail in the beard, nice big boxy shoes, great hat! Patches fit in nicely.
Don't be nervous. You can't please everybody, so you should carve for you, not for others. Otherwise, you'll never be happy when you carve. As the song goes, "Don't worry, be happy!" |

| | Re: First shared carving Sue,
I like it.... I don't have the expertize to say anything bad about it... but since I am going to try to do other carvings like this, I now know how to get away from doing eyes.... eyes worried me... a hat like that works GREAT.

| | Re: First shared carving Hi;
I was attempting to make more when my blade on the band saw broke. My husband had to order some on line due to the fact Sears is not "user friendly."
Sean...me too. I was happy when I saw this little guy with the hat and huge mustache.
Thank you all for the kind words.

| | Re: First shared carving Sue ,
NICE carving. I like the fact you did a nice paint job on him , reminds me of an old cartoon char!
I also like the fact, that looks like you had a couple small pulls on the grain when you cut him and did not take sandpaper and worked him to death. Nice carving and I agree give him a few more friends your doing great.

| | Re: First shared carving Well Sue, Ya done good. He is cute and well proportioned, or well balanced, good detial, great paint job. Looks great to me. And here you was afraid to share him. Bob said it best. Now practice, Practice and more practice.
A little hint. Try some more till you are comfoprtable with the progress you have made and them branch out to somthing else and then carve several of those. then on and on. You will be suprised at the improvement form the first in each series.
Noe I need to go practice, practice and some more practice at what I preach. |
