Default First project: Wood Spirits

This is the first project I did. It's a piece of cedar that a friend gifted to me. There are several parts of it I'm not happy with such as the mustache on the spirit on the right, and the eyes on both of them. But for a first work, I'm pretty happy with it.

Maple,
Your use of the different tools is a good start. It shows your learning what each tool does. As you learn you will be more aggressive with the knowledge of the tools and experenice. Faces are difficult when you first start, but you have done well. Keep it up and practice practice practice the changes that take place in carving will surprise you. Keep your piece and you will always get a great joy from your first piece .

Ash

Thats a good start and you obviously have a good eye, so practice will bring reward. Look at some of the videos if you havent already and they will help as well, in my opinion seeing a technique on a video (or even better in person..join a club if possible) is so much more informative than any still picture can be. Congratulations on your first piece.

Yeah, good on ya for your first piece. It's always a trip taking that first step. With experience will come knowledge and confidence. Joe.
