Default First Kolrosed spoon done!!!

Well after making my 2 new Kolrosing knives, I had to apply the technique to a project. Since this is my first try at this way of decorating a piece, I used/copied alot of Judy Ritgers pattern she used on a similar spoon. It is a valentines spoon carved from a piece of birch, I free handed the pattern then did the kolrosing. Once done, I rubbed very fine ground coffee into the incisions and layed on a coat of boiled linseed oil. This was not easy to do with no tutorial to follow, so I had to learn as I went. I hope that with practice my next project will be more intricate and free flowing, without the jagged edges. Hope you like.

Great job Gilly!...very nice piece...just curious about the staining with coffee...doesn't it tend to stain the rest of the surface or do you sand or rub it off?

Its coffee grounds Bandaid, you just rub them into the cuts...... haven't done it, but read up on it some time back.

The idea is to allow the grounds to lie in the grooves, then brush off the excess and oil or wax over top, then allow to sit to give the coffee time to work-in. In this case, the coffee ended up tinting my oil but gave a nice light color, so my mistake, worked out in my favour

Gilly,
I have made a few spoons over the years and I have to say you did a fine job on the bowl.

I have never tried it, but I wonder if an engraving pencil would work for putting in the lines of the pattern.

I thought about that, like an engraver for marking you property, I have scribed into wood before using these, and it seems to work fine, but in this case, I "had" to make 2 kolrosing knives therefore I "had" to use them to decorate a spoon.
