Fantastic job!!! It has my kind of expression. couple of other items to consider on the next one...taper the hair where it meets the helmet and cut deeper (possibly undercut) the details of the sirt and suspenders...you have a lot to be proud of with this one!!!

| | Re: Fireman WIP Ok, not a lot of time today but did round off the squareness of the shoulders and tapered the back to more of a point but have not finished them up nor undercut the suspenders. Still not totally satisfied but looks better. I took a couple of pictures but the dang 'puter will not accept my camera now. Guess I will restart the "puter and see if that does it. Just does not recognize it. It is love to hate pc or hate to love them.
Hmm, I guess I am the same way, hehehehe

| | Re: Fireman WIP I am going to try an paint it in washes. If it don't suit me, then straight up paint it. Me thinks it will look dandy with some washs on it. may have to paint heavier coats on hair and mustash.
Thank you for the nice comments.
When I first started caricature, I wasn't overly happy with the results and was not liking caricatures. After the Bishop class and a little more comfortable carving them and learning some great techniques, I am enjoying carving caricature more and more. I like the Firemen and like Lynn on his cowboys and you on your Santas, i am going to carve more fireman. Yep from other's roughouts and my own designs.
I have plenty of Fireman pictures and infor. so, we shall see.
Thanks all for your comments and suggestion, I have taken them and redone the piece, looks "More better"(great English) and more satisfied with it. Now to paint it. |

| | Re: Fireman WIP kennyS,
Hey I like your fireman a lot. I now you changed it from your submitted picture but what strikes me is if you look at from the neck up it's a great look. Lots of shadows from deep cuts. Neat look. If you look from the neck down no shadows because no deep cuts. One thing we learned from the Bishops that I remember well is taking a triangle chip from the corner of the eyes, for instance, show shadows. Although you have the detail on the body it doesn't match the head for amount of detail/shadows, deep cuts.
I really didn't intend to offer a critque. I just wanted to say hello. HELLO KENNY.

| | Re: Fireman WIP No problem Bob and hello to youand give our regards to Maurlene also.
Thank you for the critique and I am carving deeper and there are some shadows that were not there before. Now I usually just start another piece and learn from the one I just did, but decided after reading some suggestion, to bring them in to play on the original Piece. Yes, I think the head is ok,not perfect and all I will do is paint it but still have some more left to do to the shoulders and chest and finish up the undercutting on the suspenders as Tony noted.
Take care |

| | Re: Fireman WIP Great looking fireman. His facial features are wonderful (and I ain't blowin' smoke).
As already pointed out, his chest needs some roundness and depth. His head/face (from the side) looks like he is leaning forward - keep this in mind when working on the body area and try to make it consistent, if possible, and if that's your intention. |

| | Re: Fireman WIP Actually Mitch, I was trying for an upward look of the head. I think I may have accomplished it a little but not totally satisfied with it either. May appear to be leaning forward also. Will look more at that . I have rounded off the back and front of the shoulders and like it better than before. I have some pictures and will post before and after. Right now I have to check this PC out on while it no longers accepts my camera.
Thanks for your input as well as everyone else. i appreciate them. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
