Default Finally Finished

It has been awhile since I started this one and it did not turn out at all like I had planned. I am not at all satisfied with the end result since I like to have a semblance of reality about my carvings. The flower just would not allow itself to be the shape I wished. I had an immense struggle carving out the middle and was ready to ditch the whole blasted thing at many stages. I perservered because I simply detest not finishing something these days, but I am not the least bit happy with it. Thought I would share my flop with you seeing as I started this as a WIP. Joe.

Josef:
I think it is very nice, sometimes we are our worst critics, it still looks very nice.

Don't feel its a bad carving when its not what you had hoped for. As I've been told many a time, we all have varying styles in carving so don't be so hard on yourself. I've carved a few chunks of wood over the years....and what you just carved would be a challenge to attempt.

Hey Joe,
We are our own worst critics, just because he dosen't turn out exactly like you had invisioned dosen't mean its a bad piece, remember, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". We have garden tours for charities and I always raffle off a carving, I put out 7 or 8, with my least favorite always included, 4 different times over the years the winner has picked my least favorite, one has it on his dining room table. Thought I'd share, because we all do see things differently. BTW I like your piece and love the wood the wings are made of.

Looks good.

Not being satisfied with the end result only means we couldn't get the result we wanted, not that it is not a good result.

That's something we all need to remember.

So don't worry, be happy.

Gilles
