Default Exploration

When I first saw this shape in the Tea tree log it suggested a fire to me and I began hacking away with the chainsaw. Half way through however, I discovered a different shape that wanted to emerge from this obsequious piece of timber. I take a risk in revealing this as a WIP because I have absolutely no idea if I can bring it off. Maybe I should call this a Firefish instead of a Siamese Fighting fish or Betta? Lotta shaping yet to be done. Could someone advise me whether dowel and glue alone will suffice for attatching the caudal fin, or will it require metal rod? I have still to carve the Ventral fins, but I may do away with pectoral fins on this stylised version. Comments and suggestions??? Haven't thought of the mounting yet but, I assume I will have to use metal there because of the weight.

Josef, no advice here, but it's a really cool project and I look forward to seeing how it comes out.
