Default Eskimo style salmon

This piece is in basswood with acrylic paint, than polyurathane. Each winter the Genesee Valley woodcarver club offers classes. This project is being taught be member Don Buss. He saw a salmon similar that he liked and adapted it for a class project. We still have four more classes, but I just couldn't wait another two months to finish mine. I need to work on my painting skills although I am pleased with the way this came out. It is two halves hollowed to about 1/8 were the fins show through

No wonder you didn't want to wait! The paint looks OK in the picture, fine lines and form lines are always hard to do anyway.

Never would have thought of the hollow body design.
Not certain that it would be possible in western rd cedar. . . . but I just might have to try.

Beautifully done! That hollow body is a great idea.
