Default Elk Bust Antler Do Over

I'm in the process of making a new set of antlers for the elk bust I carved years ago. A while ago the antlers were broken when something fell on them. I was thinking about replacing them anyway. Right now, the antlers are finished except for paint and some details around the base. At the place where they connect to the head I decided to use square tubing so I could remove them when transported.

Hope to be done some time next month.

Hoogster, That is a real Elk. We have several hundred within 50 miles all year round and I've seen a few 7 pointers but not many. Very nice set of antlers.

Alan, that's funny that you say "That is a real Elk." When I first finished it, I took a few pictures. I showed one of them to a hunter that knew I was into archery hunting. He asked me when I got it. I told him this year. He asked how close were you when you got him. I said 5 feet. He bought the story. I later told him that I shot it with a camera at five feet and that it was a wood carving that I had finished a while ago.

Great looking elk...and what a rack!! I know they call a 12 ponter a royal elk, is 14 pointer an imperial? or monarch? or what? I too would have gone for the record had I carved me a trophy...send that pic to Boone and Crockett.

I live in elk country - Montana. As the crow flies about 75 miles from Yellowstone Park. And yeah we do have elk here all year round. I love your carving it. You really captured the look and feel of the animal. Now depending on how you finish the antlers could really make the difference. Ike

Nice job! A Imperial elk like that needs some nice ivory tips for sure. :-)

vary nice job on both the elk and antlers ,great idea for removable fragile parts, When I do my antler carvings I make the eagles beaks a lil thicker so they wont break
