A neat idea to make key chains. I am planning to carve some golf balls for small prizes at 'the first annual golf tournement' to benefit our local muesum. Randy what is your method of cuttin and removing the cover? I have used a hack saw & a blade in my flex shaft. Then poke and pry with a screw driver until the cover comes loose. If you gouge it you just have design around the nick. Bob |

Hi Randy, Yes, nicely done carvings and the key chain idea is smart.

Thanks for the comments. The golf balls are fun to carve and don't take alot of time. Joe, I use a small hobby vise to hole the ball and cut with a coping saw. You're right it's easy to nick the core. I've found some covers come off easier than others. I use two screw drivers working around the ball opening a little at a time. Don't have any secrets. Great job Randy! I especially like your 'Elf'...nice detail! Could you take the covers off the golf balls easier by soaking them in hot/boiling water and then pulling them off??? Just seems a little dangerous using screwdrivers to pry them off...never tried it, but... Again, nice carvings indeed! Thanks for sharing! Kenn

Thanks for the comments, Dan. Kenn, boiling water? Hmmm, that just might work. I'll have to try it. Thanks Randy |
