Hey CarverMan94 , being fairly new to this myself . I understand what you're looking for . Most patterns are for fairly detailed birds , but you do have some options , Have you thought about "rough-outs " ? My avatar picture is of a Eagle head cane topper that I did about 6 months ago and it was a rough-out . And if you do use a regular pattern , there is no law that says you have to go to that much detail on you're first one . A stylized carving of an Eagle will look cool too. And not have any more detail than what you are willing to put into it. I bought a couple of patterns of eagles from Gordon Stiller and plan on doing a stylized version from one of them . As long as the overall look resembles what you're carving , Then you are doing good . You can always try another one with more and more detail on each subsequent one . If you do want to add detail be sure to get lots of reference pictures , to help you decipher what to add and what not to add. Hope this helps , Bob

P.S. Do a search here on Wood Carving Illustrated's website under "Article index" & you'll get a bunch of hits on previous articles that deal with eagles.

MA, burning and carving is not the same as playing with matches and knives.
