Hmmm, well I am going to be different, but nothing jumps out at me on the cedar board. however, I would take advantage of the dark streak through the pine board for a mountain range.

As I haven't read the other suggestions I hope I haven't duplicated anyones suggestions.
For the cedar I like your idea.
For the pine how about a woodburning or carve/relief depicting the cabin and surrounding landscape?
I know what ever you decide to do it will be terrific and the owner will be very pleased.
Now I'll go read what everyone else suggested.
Kathy

Okay, I'm with big brother on this one...how are you guys seeing all those things?! When I look at pieces of wood like that, I just see pieces of wood.....the waste wood is obvious to me, it's hiding what's in my mind, to bring out of it. I so envy all of you that look at the wood and see what's there, I need more imagination....or maybe I should have 'inhaled' a bit when I was younger! Deborah

OK, here's an adaptation that was suggested and I saw in an inverted board. Split the central dark portion, and picture a rock as the biggest part of the knot, reflected in a lake. Big pine tree on the rock, cabin with a dock extending into the water. could be done in low relief or burned, or a combination of both.

sorry for the crude interpretation, but I don't sketch well in that "paint" program.

Al

I love the great suggestions. AlArchie thank you for the picture, I understand what you are saying.

I am now torn between my idea for the Cedar and many of yours being the horses.

I love the ideas on the pine. I do think that using the knot and line for the water is a great idea.

I will begin doing some drawings and post my progress.

Again, thank you all for those great suggestions!

Greg

I like Al's sketch but... it needs reflections of the cabin and tree and of course a dinghy tied to the dock
