Kathy, wonderful job! Looks like you were an excellent student! That would be so much fun to go to a class like that. Thanks for sharing.

My mountain man is carved from one of Marks rough-outs he supplied for the class. There were three to choose from and this one was my favorite. I did purchase another one to work on at home 'Wizard'. He's really neat and will be a challenge.
Mark was a one of several teachers at the Creede Rendezvous in July. It was a fun gathering of carvers, woodburners, vendors and tourists. I would recommend Marks class to anyone who wants to learn to carve the Mountain Man or Indian.
Thanks Mark!
My Creed Mountain Man is almost finished, I have two coats of Golden Oak Danish Oil and will let dry for a couple days and apply some coats of matte varnish.
As always I welcome your thoughts and comments.
Kathy
Hi Kathy, your woodspirit turned out great! Looks like you may have wood burned the irises of the eyes in, thats a nice touch and really adds alot more interest to that area, I'll have to try that on my next carving. It was a real pleasure meeting you and Jerry and being able to carve with you in Creede, CO. I had a fantastic time and am already looking forward to next year. Thanks for the compliment on my carving instuction, we had a excellent and very talented group of carvers and that always makes for a very productive class with satisfying results.
I sure would like to see the wizard when you get him compleated. Thanks for posting the Woodspirit.

Mark, Eddy, Joy, Banjo, DADDIO, Gene, HI_HO_Sliver, Lightningbolt, Tom H, GaryMc, Doris and last but not least Lynn.

Just got home from spending the day in Mesa, driving home in a pouring moonson rain and heavy traffic for two hours. What a treat to find so many wonderful comments from my friends at WCI.
Mark had a great positive influence on my work on this mountain man. I agree, the art to carving, sculpting and painting is not to totally adopt ones teacher's style, but fine ones own. By taking Marks class it helped me actually to learn how Mark goes about sculpting eyes and noses (my weak point). I've read books on how to carve eyes and noses, but until Mark demonstrated the process--well all of a sudden it just clicked. Yeah, that's how he does it. YES, I'm very very proud of this piece and hope to create more in my own style. Already working on a drawing of a 'mountain woman' with the stuffness she would have to have.
Mark, so glad you are pleased with my finish after Creede. YES, I did wood burn the irise and liked the effect. Neat, that I had an idea that you would like to try. I'm going to make every effort to carve at Creede next year and hopefully you'll be teaching again.
Best To Everyone,
Kathy

Hi Doris, great to see you here on WCI, it's great to be able to post to two great web sites for sculptor's, painter's and carver's. Will look for you on both sites.
Kathy

I would be interested in getting a brochure or someone to contact for the next class. Sounds like it would be something I'd be interested in. Do you know if they have RV facilities?
Thanks if your able to furnish info.
