Have to see what will work there. The bark gets a little narrower down there.
Maybe might try carving a hand holding something, might be enough room for that! |

| | Re: Cottnwood bark Mark.....I didn't necessarily mean the piece you're working on now. You're too far along with it and it looks too good to change. However, you're not the carver I think you are if you don't do a full, in the round figure of a Mountain Man standing on a big rock with his rifle, powder horn, possibles bag, and other attached gear, gazing off into the distance wondering just where in the hell he is!! You can't tell me all those guys knew where they were going! |

| | Re: Cottnwood bark I thought it gave it character to leave it the way it is. Ties it in with the roughness of the bark. Beautiful piece of work.. Charlotte |

| | Re: Cottnwood bark excellent piece of bark. Kind of looks like the kind I get in central Kansas. But not that thick.
Excellent Mt man and agree with Art as it is nice as it is.
But, nice piece to do a full bodied Mt. man or Indian.
Just a nice piece for sure. |

I like hunting for bark in the winter, it's easier to find, you dont have the foliage, and you dont have to worry about picking a piece up and finding a praire rattler under it.
Sometimes though, in nicer weather, I 'll see downed cottonwood trees, and I just cant resist getting a closer look, just have to be a little more carefull when picking it up from the ground is all. |

| | Re: Cottnwood bark That is a great face Mark, the expression and detail are inspiring. Never tried bark carving, one of those "I'll have to try it someday" sort of things. No Cottonwood around here.
