Thanks Carl, This is something I've wanted to do for a quite some
time. I never get proportions right when carving bent arms and legs and even straight ones give me fits. Mannequins haven't been much help either so like a lot of people, once I get below the chin, things get real comical.
Taking this apart makes it simple to get proportions right in any pose and I can easily compare left and right parts and get the symmetry correct. I can spend more time on areas that really make the carving, in my mind anyway, that's clothing and texture and muscle definition. I can dress him up and easily see where the folds lie. Muscle definition will be a challenge. I haven't had any inspirations in that area yet, but I'm glad to be getting started on this finally and I'm sure something come along. Wouldn't it be nice if one of out figurative carvers could come up with a nice little tutorial on the subject.
