| | Chung Lee Here's a photo of a sketch I did over the weekend for a new caricature or Bottle Stopper. I'll do the head first as a tutorial and then, depending how it turns out maybe do the whole figure. Will be doing some new techniques so it should be fun. Watch the Blog for new posts as I hope to start on him this afternoon. |

| | Re: Chung Lee Thanks Lynn!! The progressive pics on your blog are really fantastic. I've learned a few things just looking at them. Like how you brought a triangle from the nose down to the chin, then cut in for the mouth and other features. Very revealing. Thank you for taking the time to document each step. I'll be going to your blog more often. I love your work and hope to be able, one day, to get results as good as yours. |

I went to your blog and saw the step by step. You mentioned you carve the front of the face to a triangle. Could this be done with a band saw?
I love your work. Gives a newbie something to strive for. Could you recommend the minumum chisels one would need to get started with this type of carving? Are these done with palm tools, micro, or regular size chisels? As I mentioned I'm just getting started and have a Denny carving and detail knife along with pfiel chiesels; #12 veiner, #11/3mm, #1/skew, #2/5mm, #5/5mm, #5/7mm, and #7/5mm. My interested is characture and realistic in the round.
On a side note, if Chung Lee were full character he reminds me of the cook on the old "Bonanza" series or the one on the "McClintock" movie with John Wayne.

| | Re: Chung Lee Jim. You could cut the shape on a bandsaw but by the time you walked over there you'd probably have the thing already blocked out with a knife. I use a bandsaw a lot to remove as much wood as possible. Sometimes though, it's just not worth the risk of injury in trying to feed something thorugh at an odd angle. Having that spinning blade pull the object out of your hands and pulling your hands or fingers into the blade is reason enough for me to reach for my knife instead. |

| | Re: Chung Lee Hi Lynn,
Excellent job. Thanks for the tutorial. It's helped me tremendously with my own carving.
BTW, I think I know that guy. We might have gone to school together. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
