| | Celtic Love Spoon Here's a Basswood, Celtic Love Spoon I have been working on. Still have some detail work. I do have a question, I wasn't going to do nothing to it until my daughter said I should paint or stain it. I really don't want to paint it, but am considering staining it. I have a couple of stains a minwax neutral oil stain, dark oak, and golden oak. Tell me what you think?
Thanks
Mel

| | Re: Celtic Love Spoon Just beautiful! Love spoons are one of my favorite things! I have quite a collection and I must say yours would look splendid in it!
SInce it is basswood and you probably arent going to be putting it in foodies, I would stain it as well. A nice warm mahogany would look sweeeet! It also looks good the way it is Congratulations-what a keepsake!
Oh-if it's for your daughter...you may want to take her advice

| | Re: Celtic Love Spoon Hi Mel,
Looking very nice. Your daughter will certainly cherish it if it's for her and she'll feel a contributory part of the process if you stain it . |

| | Re: Celtic Love Spoon Lovely spoon. I would suggest olive oil, tung oil, or something of that nature. It will bring out the grain and darken the wood just a little. If you don't like it you can stain it later. |

| | Re: Celtic Love Spoon Hey Pal, your love spoon is super and I vote for the stain either neutral or golden oak. Yelp, golden oak or walnut if you have it.

| | Re: Celtic Love Spoon Mel,
It turned out really beautiful! I talked with Mac at SMWC about a finish for my spoon and he recommended the butcher block conditioner. It is food-safe and it only made the spoon slightly darker. It looked like a natural stain after I applied it. It is kind of like a gel. My tasting spoon was also basswood. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
