Great work on the portrait Bruce. Using Cedar on the feathers is interesting, must give that a try some time.

Thanks again, Kathy, my steps for paint are as follows, 2 coats of sealer on the complete carving, a water based stain for the colors, nothing on the face except sealer. after the stain is dry, 3 coats of satin clearcoat all over, (dry between coats) to finish it off 50/50 mix of watco satin finish (dark and Natural).
