Front is finished ( I think). I put a heavy coat of redwood stain to even out the different colors of wood and hide the joints. I havent wiped the stain off at this time. I actually did wipe it but it almost all came off so I am letting it dry this time around. I am ready to add the back (just rough pieces to cover the holes). I cant put the base on it cause it wont fit in my breezeway. So I will have to wait on the base. Funny thing is that the legs look to short in the pix. I guarantee they dont look like that in life. I have read about pictures distorting shapes and the warnings of carving from them as a reference. I guess I just found out what they mean.

I will wait to detail it till its all put together (feather veins and such)

That's quite a project. Nice seeing it all come together.

I think I am finished with the indian. Now onto the base. but I wanted to show the pictures before(right) and after (left) the spar varnish. Before it had a redwood stain/sealer. it really darkened up with the varnish!

I left the eyes real exaggerated with rough edges so they would show up at a distance. Is that the right thing to do?

Its finished! well almost. I have to detail the feathers, moccasins, and add a rope to the horse. but thats just small details. This kind of project is 90% work and only 10% carving. And I worry about details on a figure. At what point does it become a mannequin? Its cedar and has different colored exterior stains. and then spar varnish. What how it will do on a covered porch? Will it fade? I am not worried about it rotting.

sorry abou the background but its not too portable and its raining. It will be displayed against a wall so that the horses head touches the wall.
