Default carvings for my new house entranceways

These are two of the three carvings I've been working on for over the three sets of french door entrances into the house we are building.

I'm still not satisfied with the thistle's depth of shadows, and may go back into it again. The serpent is almost done...one more day of clean up and getting the outer edges completed with another border edge will do it.

Hi Thor, wonderful work, and such a special project for you. Hope you will show images of the entrances when you get done.

Hey Thor, looking forward to seeing your progress on these. I've been asked about doing an over the door carving, so perhaps I'll pick up some pointers from you!

Looking good so far. The thistle group looks terrific.

Thanks to all of your for your comments. I had hoped I would have the second one done by now, but I'm holed up in my office with temperatures in the teens today. My hands aren't as reliable under those conditions, and even close to the woodstove isn't really safe to handle those chisels.

I should have them in place on the house pretty soon, and I'll post new pictures when they are there.
Thanks again. The comments help drive me on and hope these kind of details will really make the new place a special place.
Thor

ah, thor these are nice :-) i like the thistle...one point to consider is "how will the lighting mainly be when these are arranged on the door" for helping you judge if the shadows are good. they might look wrong when you light them different though they are ok...
