Bob, thanks so much, actually the show rejected it and would not show it, which was a bit demoralising, but I shall enter it in a few others!

Sorry to hear about the judges' short-sightedness. I think the public in general would have very much enjoyed seeing your work.
You have the admiration of other woodcarvers to be proud of though. Hopefully, that counts for something.

Eleanor ,
In the States , a barbers pole looks like a candy cane , red and white twisted stripes . So I tried to do a twisting curl, High ridge - Low cut twised around in front of her her Left side.

Looks like it came out pretty well , most all of it was done using an 8/10 and rolling it as I made the cuts.

Chris Pye hints at this style of using a gouge in this edition of Woodcarving. Where he shows how a gouge will follow itself in cutting a circle. Same but adding the third plane of an angle so you get a round spiral turn.
