With greetings to you guys , and thanks for the nice welcome on the welcome board, here's the Limewood W.I.P. of St Edmund, so far, with the plasticine model I made to work from. It's about 20 inches from chin to the end of the hair... updates will follow, hopefully!

I take it this is a portrait of St Edmunds after his head was severed and thrown into the thickets? Very interesting study, and the woodcarving seems to be following your model very nicely. I will follow the work in progress with interest. How will the completed sculpture be displayed? Thor |

Hi Nancy, hi Thor, thanks for your encouragement - yes you are right about the thicket, the whole myth is at http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/sourc...bo-edmund.html I love the bit about the wolf being too reverential to eat the head and protecting it ! I plan to display it (if I finish it with no disasters) on a heavy leather cushion made of old style english bridle leather made by the wonderful SOL Leather of Saffron Waldren near Bury St Edmunds in Essex, ordered the cushion today, lovely company making the best quality handmade leather goods you can find over here, the proprietor was so knowledgeable about materials and so sensitive to colour, texture etc I nearly wept with joy. |

Eleanor please except my belated welcome I have been busy and I am trying to catch up. If you come anywhere near that plastasine mold it will be an amazing carving. I cant wait to see your progress on this carving. BTW I am originally from England but it was a very long time ago. I was born in Bromley,Kent and lived for a few years in Hayes Kent not very far from London. Colin

The leather cushion sounds like a very interesting method of display. This is a very different project for us to watch. Glad to have you join us. Thor |
