Default Carving a Kiowa Cradleboard

Just put up the Cradleboard part of my Papoose project. Being as I'm here in Oklahoma decided to make a Kiowa version. Remember now, it's a caricature so it's carved in that style. Will add the beading later. Lots more photos on the Blog

Looks great Lynn. Where's your papoose? Did the little one fall out?

Hi Lynn, your Cradleboard looks really nice and thank you for carving and sharing it. Will get to your blog to see how it all does together.
Keeping in mind on my part it's carved in the caricature style--thought I'd make a comment. A while back I remember reading about the Indian cradle boards. The pointed slats that are part of the wooden back board had a primary use. It was to protect the baby in case of a horse fall primarily. The pointed slats would most likely hit the ground first and protect the papoose from a full force fall. Of course meaning a head first fall or even a tumbling/rolling end over end.

Looks like another excellent carving in the works, Lynn, and I soooooo look forward to seeing your finished works and going over the material in your blogs. I may never get bold enouth to try some of these caricatures, but it sure is enjoyable watching them.
