I always wanted to carve a bowl, but I hoped I could find a way to show more of what is inside of both the wood, and what is being contained. I know this sounds like gibberish, so here are pictures of my "basket". I carved the holes to create a better view of the exposed grains and to accentuate the swirling patterns of the oak. Holes seemed to be the right shape for this concept. I have other ideas, but here is my first attempt: |

What a unique idea. That is a beautiful piece of work. The finish realy shows of the grain. Very well done. MERLE

Thanks for the kind words, y'all. My wife has agreed to let me display it in the "open". We are going to Michael's to look for glass spheres to fill it up with on Sunday night. |

Ripton, I used the King Arthur's chain saw blades, carbide wheels, and the Guinevere Sanding System. The holes were incredibly hard to cut using three different sizes of hole saws, and I have the wrecked tendons in my elbows as proof. The finish includes two coats of deft sanding sealer, and three coats of clear gloss. |

That is a beautiful "basket" I could look at that for hours. The glass spheres is a great idea to display it with. Thanks for sharing.
