| | Re: Caricature Viking the work looks to be headed down THE RIGHT path and the viking sketch is great. I wish i could draw a silouett that good.do you find the 4x4x8 to be better than 2x2 or 3x3? i been thinking of enlarge my carvings to a larger format in hopes of being able to create more detail. i even bought 4x6x12 block to carve but recent thoughts are how i can make 2x2 or 3x3x12 blocks out of it without loosing too much to kerf's. i have been carving hobbystore blocks 2x2x4 and smaller cypress knee. even though there is only so much detail you can put into a head the size of your thumb print.i have a fear failure of bigger blocks maybe i fear wasteing a large block by finding i cant find enough detail to fill the larger space, then there is proportune problems

| | Re: Caricature Viking Yes I will be painting the viking, and as the size of the wood,I let the drawing
dictate what it is.When I do a pattern drawing I am looking for a particular
look ,and with the viking even though I know they weren't out of shape
people that was the look I am going for. Some of the patterns I do are out
of 2x2 and 3x3. |

| | Re: Caricature Viking Dont get me wrong mark, your doing a great job if i was half as talanted i wouldnt have a box full of half finished weird minature picasso looking works, that i dont know how to finish. or gave up on.... i think a fireplace misfortune might be an appropiate action for mine. but, caracatures are ment to be unproportinal as far as i know, with heads half the size of the carature, big hands and feet, etc.. i know im shooting too high for my goal of being able to produce some of pete lecires (sp) charters, faces, teeth eyes and expressions. i m half sadisfied with the bodys i can produce, but his faces haunt me in my sleep, and to how it appears he can get out so much expression in the twist of one knife stroke, as seen in his carvings, and i know the chips dont just fall off his charters magicly, |
