| | Caricature or creepy looking wood spirit I have never done a carviture but this is what they tell me my latest carving looks like. I had planned on yet another wood spirit but I didn't know what I could do with the stick in the centre of the tree. This horse chessnut carving is approx. 2.5 feet tall and has what's supposed to be a cigar on the side of his mouth. He has an exaggerated chin and bottom lip with big teeth. The cap was a challenge as the wood I used had some bends and hollows in it.
It was fun trying a caricature...that is if it looks like one

| | Re: Caricature or creepy looking wood spirit Now that is too cool. As far as I am concerned this is your best carving yet. I love the top of the carving the way you left it as it was cut that sure adds a lot of character to the carving. I have never carved horse chessnut although I know there is quite a bit of it here in Ontario. Great job you are really getting good.

Very nice! Agree with Colin, leaving the log the way it was cut really adds character. Great job!

| | Re: Caricature or creepy looking wood spirit Great idea Patrick, I love the style. It's a style all your own, part carcacture, part spirit, part comic and part portrait. Well done what ever you designate it. Almost reminds me of a realistic cartoonish character. I hope you intend to do more.....perhaps some notable figures from todays entertainment......Dolly Parton, Neil Young, Paris Hilton or George Bush!

| | Re: Caricature or creepy looking wood spirit Excellent work. The eyes you carve are always so perfect.
I've been impressed with your work since I first saw it, but you have expanded your abilities quickly since then.
Love the teeth and the cigar too.
