Default Butternut Indian woman

Hi All, I started this woman and little girl. It is a 4"x4" by 1ft tall piece of Butternut. I saw a picture in a magazine that was similar to what I want it to look like. But that was flat and now I am trying to get the perspective right from all angles. I drew the basics on but am having trouble in the round.I am new at this still learning everyday, any tips on people carving appreciated.

I think it's looking good. The only advise I have is to keep at it. Don't stop until all of the extra wood is removed. Your blocked out shapes look just fine. Keep us posted on your progress.

Phyllis, I think you're doing fine with the carving so far, just keep peckin away and it will happen. I sure do like the background you have chosen for the photo, WOW, looks like you've got a little hunk of paradise there.

Hi Phyliss, I've looked at your beginning carving really closely and I feel you need to continue following your instincts because they are guiding you in the right direction. I really love the whole feeling of your carving. Shape wise just keep with the rounding/modeling.
I hope 'Doris' will comment because she is one of the best carvers of the female I know. I think you are really doing well.

Thank You Kathy, Harry, Cliff and Brandant. I carved on it today and we have carving class tonight so hopefully it won't end up as firewood. Cliff that is our view from our front porch. I think it is heaven.

Phyllis;

Looks great so far! Can't wait to see them finished. Looks like you have quite the view from your porch, also. That view would make a nice relief deep carving. Thanks for sharing.
