Britannia completed.

The Britannia model has been completed and should be delivered this afternoon. I'll post pics of the window display when it's been completed.

Ron.... the model shows the R.M.S. Britannia (Royal Mail Steamer) at sea under full steam, sails furled (rolled not being used) and in a gentle sea carved in Pine, painted in blues and greens, with plenty of white around the hull because of her speed. Imagine a clear sunny day at sea with a moderate to light swell, and a light breeze, not quite enough to create whitecaps. The paddlewheels at speed are creating foam and generating a good wake around the vessel and she is dashing through the seas like a thoroughbred! Makes for a rather dramatic image.

The ship is painted in a dark brown/black hull, picked out with pale yellow trim, sports an elegant clipper bow with plenty of carved work on the head rails and bow cheeks. The deck is fully planked and stained in Light Oak, as is the raised forecastle. The stern is highly detailed in pale yellow with elaborate quarter galleries on each quarter (by the stern at either hip). The deck cabins and hatches are painted the same brown/black, as are the paddlewheel boxes, detailed with pale yellow and there are brass guardrails on the paddlebox tops and a bridge amidships running across/joining the two paddlebox frames. Cabin roof are done in Mahogany as are the rails and varnished. On each side aft of the paddles are lifeboats on brass davits complete with lowering gear/rigging. Just the basic standing rigging has been installed (main shroudes, forestays and back stays in black rigging) and the basic running rigging details (braces and yard lifts in tan coloured line) show up nicely. The smoke stack/funnel is done in red with black bands and is supported by dark wire stays.

Really impressive Bob! The water turned out so well with the waves going one way and the wake of the ship cutting through them with the white wake contrasting so well. The details on the ship turned out with great contrasting colors too. Love the smoke stack and the gold color on the paddle wheel part. I feel really lucky to see the pictures as I won't ever get to see it in the window display.

Ron: ohe thing Bob forgot to mention- the ship is a sidewheeler, that is, with a large paddlewheel on each side, about half way between bow and stern.
