| | Re: box fronts in progress This has been awhile getting to this stage, but here is the finished carving with stain on it of the harp player and the grape stomper.
I have stained it dark, and will finish it with a spray shiny finish when I decide whether I want it to be the front of a box or hang on the wall as is. My husband says, hang it on the wall, I say it won't sell unless it's on a box front.
Remember, this is white pine....staining it dark is kind of weird, but I wanted it to look different than my Viking style carvings.
Anyway, I'm pleased with the way it turned out.

| | Re: box fronts in progress Thor great job. I say hang it on the wall. Then you'll see if their just buying the boxes or if their buying the carving. Turned out great.

You know you're pretty smart for a young guy....I mentioned your comment to my husband, who is an artist heavily into his own series right now, and he said, "I thought you wanted to put it into a box? It won't sell hanging on the wall as well will it?"
Lesson learned....again. Don't ask....just do it.
I'm actually going with your suggestion to see if the carving can stand on it's own. I waxed it for a shiny finish with paste wax. I couldn't make myself spray a medieval looking piece with a shiny finish afterall.
Mary, thanks for the comment. I enjoy working with medieval themes in most of my work.

A very nice piece of work. I can see that every project you've done, shows a great deal of improvement. After all, practice makes perfect
Your right on about the finish. I've always had the belief that anything made out of wood , should have a satin finish. There's something about a glossy finish that hides the beauty of the wood. Even on most woodturnings, I prefer a satin finish.

Thor | Thor, I just hope that I'm really as smart as you think I am. Keep in mind that I'm still new to the game in more ways then one. But I'll take the compliment anyway.
