| | Boots & Saddles....At least the Boots!! I've just about got the first part of the next Out West Woodcarving Blog project completed. Thought you might like a preview. I'm trying to keep this one as simple as possible so everyone can participate and end up with a real nice looking piece.
While the Boots turned out nice, the base is the real fun part. I borrowed one of Boomer's old shoes, cleaned it up and will use horseshoe nails to secure it to the oak base. Really ties in well with the Boots and upcoming Ssaddle.
New Blog post should be up mid-week. |

| | Re: Boots & Saddles....At least the Boots!! Horseshoes......Make sure you get the "OO" size. Old shoes are fine as long as their in fairly good shape and not worn too much. Usually the front end is worn off and ruins the shape. Also, the Farrier will bend the shoe when taking it off. New ones will work okay too. The size is the important thing. Hope to he the post up today. |

| | Re: Boots & Saddles....At least the Boots!! Lynn-- I love the concept. Have you thought about carrying it a little bit farther and carving the horseshoe? |

| | Re: Boots & Saddles....At least the Boots!! Sure...you could carve the Horseshoe. However, using an actual article associated with a boots carries the theme better. Also, it give 'heft' to the final piece. One thing I've always noted about woodcarvings, at least figures the size I carve, is their lack of actual weight. By using things like Horseshoes or a thick hardwood base solves this problem and gives the carving a greater degree of strength. |

| | Re: Boots & Saddles....At least the Boots!! Lynn, I really like the use of a real horse shoe, it fits perfectly, the contrast of the wood with the metal. Great idea!! Deborah |

| | Re: Boots & Saddles....At least the Boots!! It was just a thought. I like to carve everything including the base when possible. But I hadn't thought about the heft of the piece. Good idea. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
