Bonsai formed bust progress This new project really fried my grey matter, so I had to enlist the aid of some new materials and techniques to help me visualize the piece. Talk about heading off on a tangent! Anywho, I am making a plaster mock-up of a hollow bust that will appear to have been formed by a Bonsai.
This will be a three-piece carving with the left and right sides of the head sculpted from cherry, and the hair is still undecided.
I will shoot more pictures as the work progresses. I am so happy to have finally found a way to visualize this thing after a month of trying. I cut the black areas out last night, and when shining a flashlight on it in my darkened shop, the shadows on the wall are incredible.
The thumbnail of the tree below is what I am shooting for, in a sense. It was part of the inspiration.
