I just finished my first carving in about 10 years. The body is Macassar Ebony and the face is bone. She rests on the back of her arms and the spoon bowl floats above the surface slightly. I don't have a bandsaw or scroll saw so knocking off the excess took more time than it should have. Some areas of the carving I wish I had finished better but it was a lot of fun getting back into carving. My intention is to do a series of sculptural spoons. I did one out of clay last year and had it cast in pewter... which I might do with this one also.

Wow, that is lovely. Everything about it, from the choice of materials to the graceful shape of the bowl to those delicate hands. Excellent work. The face is bemusing as well. Just lovely. Thanks for showing that to us. Christina |

Great looking spoon and also looks like it would have a nice feel to hold. Merle

Very well done, and a very unusual piece, from what I can see in the pic, it almost looks like rosewood. I am a struggling spoon maker myself but certainly nothing as artistic as you have shown. Please keep posting pix of your creations we love to see them. Cliff |

Hi idattu, That is a beautiful spoon. The design is very original and the combination of bone and ebony gives such contrast.

Thank y'all for commenting. I followed the links to see y'all's work and there is some really cool stuff. Christina, I really like the idea of the fairy houses. I think it would be great to carve one , go into the woods and find a tree along a path and carve a place in the base of the tree to inset the fairy house. Of course, the way my mind works, I want to put on a hinged door and have one of those spring 'snakes' behind it so that when some hapless fella comes along and decides to have a look.....
