| | Blockhead's are fun! During the course of the past several weeks I've been working on these little "blockheads" mostly as a lag-time activity between classes, lunch, or just whenever I can work them in.
I just carved them right off the "top of my head" (no pun intended) with virtually no thought as to what they'd end up becoming when I started. Lag time carvings can't demand much more since it's during the day when lot's of other stuff (like paid employment ) has to be on my mind too.
I cut the approximately 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" X 5" blanks out of some soft white pine that was on hand and they fit just perfectly into the cargo pockets of the Army pants that I wear to work each day. My Carvin' Jack is always on my belt too so with this grand combination I never have to worry about going into a case of the "shakes" because I'm prepared to carve 24/7 on the spot, anywhere, and at any time! |

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! Really nice idea. You should put a tutorial together on this one and feature it in the woodcarving illustrated magazine. Really cool faces but not too complex so a lot of folks could do them! Thanks for sharing.

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! Dave I have a book on carving blockheads. In it you use the same roughout shape but can carve all kinds of different caricatures. I did two so far one was the mounty and another was a woodcarver. Are we talking the same type of blockheads? |

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! Dave, your block heads brought a huge grin and chuckle. Much imagination and creativity showing here. I think the first two are especially humorous and it shows you had fun creating all four.

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! I whole heartily agree with GeorgiaCarver.... Put together a tutorial and submit it to Woodcarving Illustrated. That's a great idea. I always take along a piece of wood and a carving knife where ever I go just in case I have some down time but I usually end up doing some last minute scrambling for a piece of wood and an idea. Having a project in mind like yours makes a lot more sense. |

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! I can see these catching on - great work. Perhaps you can try the Adams Family, Disney characters or some other well known characters. People would love these for their cottages.

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! Those are great Lightningbolt, and also a great way to pass the time. They give you a chance to keep practicing and experimenting with new techniques, while doing what you enjoy. So many faces to carve, and so many expressions!!! Well done.
