This has been a banner week with carving for me and the "next generation" is gonna have to be more full-size blockheads. The next 5 are presently staring at me with the carving, painting, and layering completed... just need to woodburn a little bit then I'll have 'em posed here shorly so that they can live on happily for cyber ever. |

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! As I mentioned in the last post, this HAS been a banner week for carving and gosh, have I got the ultimate line up this time... everything from an Indian to a darned banana head!! I decided to just split them up into seperate pictures since a group shot might break the camera with so many conflicting personalities!
Just more lag time carving off the top of my head (pun intended). Painted 'em with thinned down acrylics then layered with sealer, and completed by lightly sanding with 220 grit. I still haven't polyurethaned them but will do that next.
Maybe next week will reveal some more personalities but as it is with carving... only time will tell!
Enjoy! |

Ok, here's my latest b-head that I knocked out during today's "lag time". When I took the block outa' my pocket someone was talking about St. Paddy's day this coming weekend and a little lucky charm man sprung into my head.... well, actually it was the vision of green beer that reached the consciousness of my brain first but the little green man was a close second!! LOL!
Anyhow, I ended up naming him "Lucky" for some reason but this is how it turned out. Hope that you all enjoy. Oh, by the way... everyone have a good St. Patrick's Day! |

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! I'm really not on a roll but I do have one more carving story from today. I carried all 9 of my first blockheads to work and to make a long story short, one of the kids said that my "Hog Man" was Hulk Hogan. Without a second glance I saw what he meant.
I then walked around with it until lunchtime asking several different folks what famous person did they see and every time the "Hulk" was their first answer. Well, when I found the time I carved off the old name and re-burnt the "real" name.
I couldn't help but think that if I successfully carved a famous face accurately enough for others to easily identify, then I wonder what I could do if I were trying to carve a real likeness into my blocks? Hmmmm... something to ponder upon. I think that I've been inspired, even if the Hulk was an accidental likeness, and I'll have to look into more of these. |

| | Re: Blockhead's are fun! Glad that you're enjoying them as much as I'm enjoying carvin' them!
And Tom: Now that you've mentioned the "Je--a" word and got me all stirred up again I can now only hope that I can keep it all under control! I carved #11 today (a Santa) but didn't have time to get it painted due to a March Madness basketball tournament that wore me down to a mere fizzle. I'll post it probably tomorrow if I recover enough.
I'd love to see anyone else's blockheads or anything that resembles them, no matter how much better they look than mine. so if the "bug" hits you then I hereby challenge you to post 'em here... ya hear?! |

Sorry that it took 5 months to get it up... might as well have just waited until Christmas. ![001[1]3424](http://www.woodcarvingillustrated.com/forum/images/smilies/001[1]3424.gif) | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
