| | Re: Black Walnut trout First of all the fish looks very good for a first fish. Well done and the base works in very well with it also.
As for the finish, what I do with my bases and fish, when I do a natural finish is use about 50-50 mix of Danish Oil and Gun Stock finish. I think it is called Caseys Gun stock finish. Anyway, it is made by Tru Oil, I put it on let it sit for just a little and then wipe it dry. Then let it sit over night and then polish it with a little Rouge and a piece of leather. I have speeded up that process a little by wrapping a piece of leather around a soft cushion sander that you can put in a dremel or Foredom. Do that about 4 to 6 times and it will shine up nicely. Then I finally put on some Danish Oil Wax and polish it up with a soft rag. Will give a GREAT finish to it and be somewhat shiny but not like a plastic finish that Poly will give it. Lots of people describe the finish as being soft looking. If I can help any further just let me know.

| | Re: Black Walnut trout Great carving and I like the finish. I have just recently become the owner of 3 black walnut slices aboput 6 inches thick, and almost 2 feet in diameter, they are laying on the patio at the moment, I can't move them without some help.

| | Re: Black Walnut trout Excellent job on both the fish and the habitat. It's nice to see this done with a darker type of wood for a change. Bird carver |
