Default Big Woodpecker

I took this yesterday before I started working on him. This is a life size Pileated Woodpecker. The customer is wants it to put on his office wall, pecking a nest hole in a section of a log.

Really nice work, so far. It looks like he'll be leaving the door to his nest hole "a-jar" a bit though. my wife's always hollering at me for doing that.

If he picks out a pine thee to nest in I guess I will have to take away his candle. Pines have all that pine pitch in tham and it might cause a fire, hah Really that was just to prop him upright froe the picture. All the glasses, cups, and mugs were either too tall and he would fall back or too short and he would try to spike the hutch top. When my wife it, she wanted to know why my "wooden chicken" was perched on her candle. There are all wooden chickens untill they are painted.

Great start, one of my favourite birds to carve. I try to keep one carved and ready to go. Beautiful bird. I was painting one two yrs ago, and my wife was in the room, she said I hear a Pileated woodpecker, I laughed and she said no really. We looked out the window, and there was one perched in a tree just outside, it stayed there for a few minutes and flew. The only one we have seen since moving to this location. Really like the shape of your Pileated Woodpecker, post a photo when your finished.

That's a great start, can't wait to see it finished. We have one here, what a surprise the first time we saw it.....it looked huge and it looked just like yours....only with color!! Deborah
