| | Barn Scene Relief Here is one of the new projects that I am working on. It is a Lora Irish Pattern put on a piece of spanish cedar 2"X12X20" with Garry's (Ash) laser.
You can see from the one picture what I started with when I just removed some of the back ground trees ,sky etc. Still have along ways to go just thought I would show some progress. The other project is a surprise and will show when I get more done. Let me know what you think.

| | Re: Barn Scene Relief Hello Ron,
The carving is terrific. You ,as is typical, handle the perspectives very well. There are though two things that keep catching my eye. I know they are in the original laser cut out and I'm sure they are in the original pattern as well. And quite possibly I am looking at and interpreting this incorrectly as well. But on the building addition to the barn and the small structure are windows I believe that are at skewed angles.Maybe not knowing what these are or why they are at these odd angles keeps catching my eye and not allowing me to view the entire picture. The whole thing has a pleasant symmetry and balance to it,,all your other perspectives are very well done but these two glitches ,in my eye,are a bit distracting for some reason and all that I find myself looking at. What are these things and why are they positioned as they are?
Most often when I do sketching I come across many things that are in the actual scene,,but I do leave things out if I feel they help the flow, balance or generally clean up a drawing. For example I'll leave out utility poles, street signs where I want to sketch a house for example. It's probably just me not knowing the rhyme or reason for these elements in your piece that is making me post a comment.
Thank you for posting this. I'm a fan of your work and mean no disrespect by my thoughts or observations. |

| | Re: Barn Scene Relief Ron ... just great, I will watch closely.
Mark ... The slanted windows - one's where the long side of the window sill follow the slant of the roof - are common throughout the mid-Atlantic region. It's most often seen on small out buildings but will occassional show up in the eves of a large barn addition.
I have no idea where the practice came from ... but it is a real eye catcher.

| | Re: Barn Scene Relief Thanks,,,I figured I was missing something somewhere. The odd angles seemed inconsistent with the rest of the perspectives I see and knew there had to be some explaination I was missing since they were put in from the start.
I guess you could call them eye catching. Thanks again!

| | Re: Barn Scene Relief Thanks Mark Believe me I was wondering when I felt them also and just about chalked it up to Garry playing a trick on me. Thanks for clearing it up Susan.

| | Re: Barn Scene Relief Ron, I'm new to the sight and just want to say that you are an inspiration. I saw the article about how you do your carvings and I've lurked on this sight for awhile before joining, getting a chance to see some of the work shown here. I look forward to seeing the completed scene.
