| | Re: Barn Scene Relief Susan ,
Did the building have poles in it? It looks like it is raised up from the ground without a foundation. That would have been typical for a family chicken shed in the 30's .
In the 70's I was lucky enough to help an old farmer, that had about 60 chickens in eastern Ky. His shed was raised off the ground about 12 inches and the windows laid sideway following the roof line. The old man taught me a lot in the few weeks I was with him. How to steal chickens ,,,, his of course but showed me how to empty a chicken coup without ever having the chicken make a sound. Neat trick.
Here is a picture of a modern chicken shed , I think you'll see the resemblance . Of course these are modern not like the old styles of the 20's -50's when you made do with what you had. My grandmothers shed was both chicken house and coal shed .

Sorry couldn't resist!!
I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, I am hijacking this thread back to Ron--you know, that find gentleman who carves up a storm and keeps trying to convince us he's blind?!?!? Anyway, fantastic job on the carving--even if the windows are crooked--another con job if I ever saw one!

| | Re: Barn Scene Relief Ron, I think that is your best yet really nice work sir. That barn door is amazing, you have captured that space to a T. I am just waiting for a horse to come walking out of that barn or a cat. Really neat work I am very impressed. You are like a good wine you get better with age.
I am off to Ridgway next week I understand that Gary and Mike are coming down on Friday. Georgia Carver is going to be there also so it should be a great time. Only wish you could be there as well I would love to see you try a full size chainsaw carving.

| | Re: Barn Scene Relief I wish I could be there also but maybe next year. That will give me time to practise also. This barn was a good one If I could do a rabbit I would put one in for Susan. I will think on it.
