Compositionally speaking, having them look into the middle would "frame" the bar better and not have the viewer looking away from the bar, following their glances. Perhaps if the middle of the bar had something for them to be gazing towards would help tie it in. Better yet, have the one looking towards the other gal, the other gal looking towards the middle...it would keep the eye moving around the piece rather than getting carried out and away.
