Great to watch your ships come together. Thanks for showing images of the tiny parts.

| | Re: Back to carving ships! I had posted a message on this thread and now see that it didn't make it. You certainly have patients Bob to do micro work like your showing us here. I've been struggling with small pieces but seeing how small yours are gives me no right to complain. I can't recall seeing any of yours showing up in bottles. Have you done that before? I've seen the technique how its done but its still a challenge to see people who do it.
Great work Bob.

| | Re: Back to carving ships! Small pieces, small steps. Now you know why it takes so long to build a model.
Another small step today, steam bent and installed the main wale, repainted the hull and head assembly, carved and installed the bowsprite. Working on anchors now. Now those are small carvings! LOL
Glad you are enjoying the sequence. Thank you for the encouragement. Here are a few views of what it will look like in the sea. Beginning to look like a ship should.

| | Re: Back to carving ships! Made a helmsman for the wheel and installed a rail around the quarterdeck. Now he shouldn't get washed overboard in heavy seas.
I put a pencil in a couple of pictures for reference to the scale.
Patrick, I haven't done the ship in the bottle thing, I know how, it's just not my thing. Can't get enough detail on them is my hangup. I have done some relief carving of ships Curly, in Mahogany, Basswood and Butternut. Mahogany seems to be my favorite.

| | Re: Back to carving ships! Work on the masts continues. The tops have been carved and the topmasts stepped in place. The mizzen only has a topmast, no t'gallant mast, so it's finished, except for gaff and boom. The fore and main will have a t'gallant mast yet and then the yards.
Looking like a sailing ship now.

| | Re: Back to carving ships! Bob,
I am really enjoying this thread. I absolutely am in awe of your talent, ability and attention to detail. I purchased the Spring 2006 Issue of WCI, which has your article on carving a half hull replica. After I get a little more carving experience under my belt I am going to attempt it. Thanks again for sharing your process with us.
